Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3: It's Finally Happening, and I Can't Stop Smiling

Let me be honest with you for a second.

For the past ten years, I've been one of those fans quietly hoping – sometimes shouting into the void – that Bandai Namco would finally give us a true sequel to Xenoverse 2. We've had DLC after DLC. New characters, new moves, new story chapters. And don't get me wrong, I loved every bit of that support. But deep down, there was always that little voice asking: "Where's Xenoverse 3?"

Well, that voice can finally rest.

The Moment We've All Been Waiting ForDuring the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour event earlier this month, the announcement dropped. And I'll admit it – I rewatched the trailer four times just to make sure I wasn't dreaming.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is real. And it's coming in 2027.

The codename was "Age 1000." Mysterious. Intriguing. Honestly, a little frustrating at first because nobody knew what it meant. But now we know: they're taking us to a completely new era of Dragon Ball. Not a retelling of Goku's adventures. Not another trip through the Saiyan Saga or the Frieza fight we've seen a hundred times (as much as I love those moments).

Something brand new.

This One Hits Different

Here's the part that makes my heart ache a little – in a good way, I think.

Akira Toriyama worked on this game. He was involved in the world-building and character designs before he passed away in March 2024. And knowing that this is one of the last things he touched personally? That gives Xenoverse 3 a weight that no amount of marketing can fake.

I remember reading Dragon Ball as a kid, staying up late with a flashlight under my blankets. Toriyama's world felt alive – silly, dangerous, heartfelt, and absolutely unforgettable. To think that his vision will live on in this game, in a future timeline he helped imagine... it makes me want to thank him all over again.

What We Know So Far (And What We're Guessing)

Look, official details are still a little thin. But here's what seems to be true based on what the developers have shared:

The story takes place in the distant future – far beyond Dragon Ball Super's current timeline. Your custom character returns, but the world around you has changed.

It's not a remaster or a glorified expansion. This is a proper sequel with a new engine, new mechanics, and a fresh story.

PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S – sorry PS4 and Xbox One owners, it looks like we're moving fully into the current generation. Honestly? About time.

And yes, before you ask – your beloved Time Patroller will still be there, customizable head to toe, ready to throw hands with whoever threatens history next.

Why I'm Personally Excited (And Why You Should Be Too)

Here's my honest take.

Xenoverse 2 was amazing for its time. But after nearly 80 DLC packs (okay, I'm exaggerating, but barely), the game feels a little... creaky. The menus are slow. The hub world is crowded. Some mechanics haven't aged gracefully.

Xenoverse 3 is a chance to start fresh. A new foundation. Better graphics. Smoother combat. And most importantly – a story that isn't just "remember that iconic fight? Now do it again with your OC."

We're finally getting something unknown. A future we can't predict. New enemies. New allies. Maybe even new races or transformations nobody has seen before.

That feeling of discovery? That's what I've missed.

A Small Request Before You Go

If you grew up with Dragon Ball like I did, you probably have your own memories attached to this series. A favorite character. A moment that gave you chills. A friend you made online while grinding for that one skill drop in Xenoverse 2.

Take a second to appreciate that. Because when Xenoverse 3 drops in 2027, we'll be making new memories together.

I'll be there on day one. Customizing my character for two hours before actually playing the game. Getting absolutely destroyed by the first boss because I forgot how to dodge. Grumbling about RNG drops. Loving every second of it.

I hope you'll be there too.

What do you want to see in Xenoverse 3? Drop your wishlist in the comments – I'm genuinely curious. More transformations? Better character creation? A playable Mr. Satan? (Yes, I'm serious.)
